(Snippets from the frontline)
The second Civil War
Twelve score and two years ago, our fathers and mothers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men and women are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, long after Appomattox. Instead of cannons, we are armed with hostility, disrespect, suppression, incivility, and hatred dividing our nation.
You are either “with us or against us”, on the left or the right, conservative or liberal, socialist or communist. Skin color still matters, and lives do not. Sexual identification is ignored, economic separation widens, and In God We Trust muffles other religions and beliefs.
Bullies on the playground are now bullies in the Board Room, legislators are bought, infrastructure is in disrepair, and healthcare is on hospice.
Technology is touted as a panacea, but immediately exploited through election manipulation and fraud, threatening democracy.
Indifference is a scourge permeating society as the spirit of independence has faded.
We cannot lose hope.
Let our votes be bullets, so “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
Gene Uzawa Dorio, M.D.
We get precisely the government we vote for. If we do not vote, we cannot complain that others have taken over. Protesting does no good unless it is followed up by trips to the ballot box.
