MD + MBA
Let me criticize some of my MD colleagues who now have MBA attached to their title.
As you shift to the business team, left behind is a shredded copy of the Hippocratic Oath to “do no harm.” You got an MBA to embellish employment credentials for insurance companies, HMOs, drug manufacturers, and hospital administrations to covertly scrape money off the top.
Sure, you have to pay your student loan, mortgage, car payments, etc., yet ultimately you will selfishly sacrifice the good of your patient for personal gain.
That’s right, kick the patient out of the hospital early so you can get a bonus; know early discharge involves risk of re-admission or dying, but you’ve learned from getting your MBA percentages are with you; constantly justify high drug prices claiming “Research and Development”; fallaciously convince patients to go on hospice saving you money; deny care because it is too expensive eating into your profit; and allow business people to make medical decisions for you.
Let “shareholder” and “algorithm” be used in every other sentence.
Do you have any guilt?
Go ahead, defend your MBA.
I’m waiting.

Just would like to say I am a victim of early release from the hospital. I have spent the last 7 1/2 months being admitted and readmitted to the hospital. Because, I believe, done for monetary gain for physicians and hospitals. All done at my expense.
I agree with you 200%. The question is how do we fix this?
