(Snippets from the frontline)
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
The adage did not intend to mean Apple, Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo, etc., but that is exactly what happened in medicine as computer screens have kept doctors away from patients and families.
When someone is ill and hospitalized, they are not reliable historians in relaying their condition, especially to those who might have Power of Attorney making medical decisions. Discussing the diagnosis and treatment plan with the attending physician is therefore crucial.
Shamefully, most of the time families do not even receive a phone call.
Instead, they gather piecemeal information from nurses, CNAs, case managers, discharge planners, social workers, pharmacists, physical therapists, and even physician specialists.
When the computerized algorithm game-plan launches your loved one home or to a nursing facility, you may not even know their diagnosis.
Healthcare is in shambles because communication has been lost. The technology factor has eliminated the human factor.
Doctors share a partnership in this debacle, but can shore up some of these problems by remembering: A phone call a day keeps the doctor… off the computer.

It’s a HIPPA violation to call and discuss a patients medical issues over the phone without their permission or a written DPOA. If you worked in a hospital you would know this.
Why do you speak so poorly of Henry mayo if you say that you worked there for so long ? If you were on the board, why didn’t you make changes. You never have anything positive to say on this blog. Why do you no longer work there?
