COVID-19/BLM: Pandemic survival
He immigrated to the United States decades ago for a better life, establishing a successful business. As the patriarch of the family, every Thanksgiving they would gather at his home for their meal.
That year, over 10 years ago, was different. He was in his 90s, mobility was decreased requiring physician and nursing housecalls. Resources were difficult sustained by creative ingenuity of family and medical professionals. IT technology was in infancy.
This particular Thanksgiving found him ill barely surviving in a hospital, and he knew the likelihood of being home would be impossible. His millennial grandson though harnessed the little technology we had, brought his laptop to the hospital, found a connection, and set up “dinner.”
Food was brought from home, and with patient in bed and grandson at his side, the evening lit up on the laptop with his family around his table at home.
Inspirited, he got better, and enjoyed the next few Thanksgiving meals at home with his family.
Ten years later, all of us face similar challenges with this pandemic. Even though you might not be with loved ones, utilizing growing technology allows us to experience the same love and camaraderie with family.
We will survive.
Thanks Gene. Great post.
